Nels Running US Major General

Nels-although you were a general in the Air Force, you will always be my squadron commander at the Academy. This morning as I was waking up, I got a dream to contact you. I hope you are doing well. I left the Air Force in 1069 because I failed the eye exam for pilot training. At 23 and then again at 72, I tried to earn my private pilot's license. Unfortunately, my poor depth perception caused me to bounce repeatedly on landings. My instructors called me a kangaroo. I had a rewarding career in computers, electronics, management, and company acquisitions/divestitures. My wife of 50 years died in 2016 and I was lucky enough to find a new love and marriage last year. I have a son and daughter and 11 grandchildren. I live in Fort Myers in the winter and Milwaukee in the summer. If you are ever in either city at the right season, please come by to visit. We have lots of guestrooms.
