Gen. Hochmuth was the comander at mcrd, San Diego, in Aug 1963. I was a 17 year old trainee (boot) in platoon 263. At our graduation, the general inspected some of the young marines during the parade. When he stepped up in front of me, I nearly froze. I remember him telling me that I looked "strak", and to continue being the best marine I could be. Even though I never knew general hochmuth, I always felt privileged to have had that short encounter with him. I am now 76 years old, a viet nam veteran, and proud former marine. May you rest in peace sir. Ooooah general.
